Blood Drives

One blood donation can help save up to three lives, and Hawk’s Harvest makes it easy to give back by sponsoring monthly American Red Cross blood drives on campus. We typically host four drives each fall and four each spring. To find upcoming dates and register, visit Engage UNCW and search for “Blood Drives.” Donors must show an ID at check-in. Be sure to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of water before donating.

Adopt-a-Family

Adopt-A-Family is our annual Thanksgiving meal donation program in partnership with the Sister Isaac Center at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary in downtown Wilmington. Sponsors purchase groceries for a family using a provided shopping list, then deliver the groceries to our team in a container or box with a lid the Monday morning before Thanksgiving. We coordinate getting the meals to participating families. Providing a meal is typically a $60–$80 commitment. Sign-ups usually open Nov. 1. Once registration opens, visit Engage UNCW and search for “Adopt-A-Family” to find the opportunity and sign up.

Angel Tree

Angel Tree is our annual holiday gift program that benefits children in foster care through the Boys & Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw. Children who come to the Boys & Girls Homes have suffered abuse or neglect and are considered susceptible to high-risk behaviors, so helping to support foster families is critical to their success. As a sponsor, you will buy holiday gifts for one special child. We provide the wish list and ask that you spend $80-$100 shopping and then deliver the wrapped gifts to us, usually the week after Thanksgiving. Sign-ups typically open Nov. 1 and the registration information can be found on our Engage UNCW page.

SECU Public Fellows Internship Program

The State Employees Credit Union (SECU) Public Fellows Internship Program is designed to connect interested, talented undergraduate students with meaningful on-the-job experience with a local non-profit agency or organization while providing a unique learning opportunity that allows the intern to give back to their community. The program provides up to 20 in-state undergraduate students the potential to earn $6,000 each. UNCW has successfully received funding every year for the program since 2016. The SECU PFIP is offered to students in the Bachelor of Social Work program as a way to enhance their field experience.
