Limited Submissions

Limited Submission Opportunities

NEH will not be running a competition for the Summer Stipends program in 2025. Contact the Research Development Office if you are interested in finding similar funding opportunities.

The NSF MRI website currently states that:

  • There are no upcoming due dates, and the program is waiting for a new publication.
  • The merit review process for MRI proposals submitted in Fiscal Year 2025 in response to solicitation NSF 23-519: Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) Program: Instrument Acquisition or Development is continuing, and we expect that it will conclude before the end of FY 2026. NSF anticipates issuing an updated MRI solicitation later in FY 2026 for an opportunity to submit proposals in FY 2027. Please monitor this page and the NSF funding search for updates.

The Research Development Office is closely monitoring the situation to determine if/when a new opportunity opens, if it will be substantially changed from previous cycles, and when we would launch the internal competition for the limited submission process. If you are interested in this program, please complete the Notice of Intent to Apply for a Limited Submission Opportunity form.

Now Open: UNC System Research Opportunities (UNC ROI)

The UNC System has announced the FY2028 Request for Proposals for the Research Opportunities Initiative (ROI). The FY28 round of awards will focus on institutional block grants to fund initiatives designed to increase research capacity in one of the eligible research areas.

Topics: Advanced Manufacturing; Coastal and Marine Science; Data Science; Defense, Military and Security; Energy; Pharmacoengineering.

Programmatic Intention: To build institutional capacity in research areas that are strategically important to North Carolina.

  • This is not intended to fund one large research project but is a research capacity building grant that could fund a combination of: shared equipment, core facilities, student support, course buyouts, pilot or feasibility studies, domestic travel, resource creation, and/or conferences/workshops.
  • Competitive applications should build upon demonstrated UNCW strengths and capabilities in the selected priority area and articulate how ROI support will accelerate growth to a new level of national prominence.

Limit: UNCW is limited to ONE application. Because of this, R&I has to run an internal competition to determine the ONE institutional nominee.

Timeline:

  • Internal Deadline: Nov. 11, 2026
  • Internal Nominee Notification: Dec. 9, 2026
  • External/Sponsor Deadline: March 1, 2027

Next Step: View the internal competition on InfoReady and apply by Nov.. 20, 2026.
