Faculty and staff have championed UNCW's motto, Discere Aude, Dare to Learn, since the founding of the university. CTE is committed to recognizing their work and achievement.
Awards
Discere Aude Award
The Discere Aude Award recognizes UNCW faculty and staff for their significant achievement in undergraduate mentoring. Recipients are nominated by UNCW’s most academically successful students and recognized at our spring Celebration of Teaching community event.
Lecturer of the Year and Part-Time Lecturer of the Year Awards
Designated annually, the Lecturer of the Year and Part-Time Lecturer of the Year awards are designed to recognize excellence in teaching. CTE appoints a selection committee of previous recipients from across campus to provide recommendations based on the submission of teaching portfolios. Recipients of the awards receive a medallion and a one-time stipend. Presentation of the awards is made at an event to be attended by recipients, guests, and leaders of the university. The call for nominations, along with more information about award criteria and selection, is released in the fall semester.
CTE Educational Development Engagement Award
The CTE Faculty Engagement Award recognizes UNCW faculty who have not only engaged heavily in CTE offerings this year but, most importantly, have engaged enthusiastically in self-reflection, experimentation in teaching, and contribution to our UNCW teaching community. Teaching excellence requires an ongoing investment of time, energy, persistence, collaboration, and care. This award honors both the commitment and purposeful effort that truly remind us that excellence in teaching is never accidental.
Celebrations
Celebration of Teaching
Held at the end of each semester, this event invites faculty to come together to celebrate teaching accomplishments, recognize campus-wide contributions, and connect with colleagues in a spirit of appreciation and community.
Teaching-in-Action Contest
Faculty are invited to creatively capture teaching through photography. Submissions are welcomed throughout the semester, with selected entries showcased and prizes awarded at the semester-end Celebration of Teaching event.
We Teach Wednesdays
Join us in proudly wearing our CTE "We Teach." t-shirts each Wednesday in celebration of teaching at UNCW!
Notes of Celebration with CTE
A simple way to recognize colleagues through messages of thanks, appreciation, and congratulations. Notes may be signed or anonymous, and CTE takes care of delivering them to help celebrate the many contributions, both big and small, that strengthen our campus community.
